Thirteen cars not-so-discretely cruised across the prairie, creating a mini-dust storm as they approached the grounds of DIA. It was broad daylight, but soon the sun would set and up would come the biggest full moon in nearly two decades.
The cars reached their destination as close to the runway as the law would allow, but it wasn’t really close enough. We lined up our cars and then our tripods. It was chilly out there, but not as bad as it could have been.
We were joking and chatting and waiting for sundown, excited at the anticipation of the gigantic moon coming up over the tented peaks of the terminal.
Then the cops came, oh no! The tower must have noticed our 13-car trail of dust! They came to the gate but didn’t open it, they didn’t have the key? We were fairly sure we were going to be asked to leave. Or at least we hoped we be asked and not arrested. Just a few more minutes and we could get what we came for…
Well not exactly. The moon came up, but the clouds obscured our view. Plus the moon didn’t come up precisely where we wanted it, but in the end it didn’t matter, we couldn’t see it anyway.
Oh well. It was a fun adventure and now I know the secret spot to shoot the moon.

Oh well, you got a pretty shot of DIA at sundown… and didn’t get arrested! I’d call that a successful outing!
