Leaving Cripple Creek I was intentionally looking for this roadside spring. A friend of mine photographed it (much better than me) and I wanted to try also. I was surprised when I finally found it. There were multiple cars parked along the road all with people waiting to fill water bottles. Not to be left out I did too. The water was ice cold and wonderful. It was such a treat.
Gunshot Start!
Donkey Derby begins with a gunshot start. As you can imagine the donkeys take off running. Trouble is, part of the race includes stopping at station along the way to pick up supplies and then starting again. Sometimes the donkeys even play along and sometimes, well they do as they please!
Donkeys have always been a large part of Cripple Creek’s history. Today they can be found roaming the hills, wild and free. Each year the City holds Donkey Derby Days in celebration of the important part the Donkeys played. I enjoy watching these cute creatures. Visit the Cripple Creek Website

Changing of the Seasons
A sunny day, a dirt road and fall colors is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. I pity the people who live in parts of the country where the seasons all blend together. I can’t imagine missing the wonderful crisp fall air and the beauty of the color in Colorado.
